Multiple choice ও short-answer দুই ধরনের প্রশ্নেই passage থেকে নির্দিষ্ট তথ্য খুঁজে বের করতে হয়, আর দুটিই সাধারণত passage-এর ক্রম মেনে আসে। পার্থক্য হলো, multiple choice-এ সঠিক option বাছতে হয়, আর short-answer-এ passage-এর শব্দ দিয়ে নিজেই উত্তর লিখতে হয়। এই অধ্যায়ে দুটির কৌশল, পরীক্ষকের সাধারণ ফাঁদ এবং একটি অনুশীলনের passage পাবেন।
Multiple choice প্রশ্নের রূপ
- চারটি option (A থেকে D) থেকে একটি সঠিক উত্তর, সবচেয়ে সাধারণ রূপ।
- বড় তালিকা থেকে একাধিক উত্তর, যেমন পাঁচটি থেকে দুটি বা সাতটি থেকে তিনটি। নির্দেশনায় লেখা থাকে কয়টি অক্ষর বাছতে হবে।
- প্রশ্ন হতে পারে একটি পূর্ণ প্রশ্ন, অথবা একটি অসম্পূর্ণ বাক্য যার সঠিক শেষাংশ বাছতে হয়।
উত্তরপত্রে লিখতে হয় শুধু অক্ষর। প্রশ্নগুলো passage-এর ক্রমে আসে, তাই প্রশ্ন ৩-এর উত্তর থাকে প্রশ্ন ২ ও ৪-এর উত্তরের মাঝামাঝি জায়গায়।
Multiple choice: ধাপে ধাপে কৌশল
- প্রশ্নের মূল অংশ (stem) ও তার কেন্দ্রবিন্দু চিনুন। "What is the main reason ...?" প্রশ্নে কেন্দ্রবিন্দু main। সব option হয়তো কারণ, কিন্তু আপনাকে প্রধান কারণটিই বাছতে হবে।
- প্রশ্ন ও option-এর মূল শব্দ underline করুন, আর ভাবুন passage-এ কোন সমার্থক শব্দ আসতে পারে।
- Passage-এ সংশ্লিষ্ট অংশটি খুঁজুন মূল শব্দ ও সমার্থক শব্দ দিয়ে।
- সেই অংশটি মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়ুন। শুধু শব্দ মিলিয়ে উত্তর দেবেন না, পুরো অর্থ মেলান।
- ভুল option-গুলো কেন ভুল, তা-ও নিশ্চিত হোন। একটি option-কে সঠিক প্রমাণ করার পাশাপাশি বাকিগুলোকে বাদ দিতে পারলে উত্তর নিশ্চিত হয়।

Short-answer প্রশ্নের নিয়ম
- উত্তর passage-এর শব্দ দিয়ে: "Choose NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER from the passage" মানে শব্দগুলো passage থেকে হুবহু নিতে হবে, রূপ না বদলে।
- শব্দসীমার বেশি নয়: তথ্য সঠিক হলেও সীমার বেশি শব্দ লিখলে উত্তর ভুল। Hyphen দিয়ে যুক্ত শব্দ (যেমন pasta-making) একটি শব্দ। সংখ্যা অঙ্কে লেখা যায়।
- প্রশ্নের শব্দই উত্তরের ধরন বলে দেয়: Who মানে মানুষ বা প্রতিষ্ঠান, When মানে সময়, How many মানে সংখ্যা, Where মানে জায়গা।
- প্রশ্ন ক্রমে আসে, তাই আগের উত্তরের পর থেকে খুঁজুন।
- বানান ও ব্যাকরণ: ভুল বানানে নম্বর মেলে না।

অনুশীলনের passage: A Library That Lends More Than Books
একটি কাল্পনিক শহর নিয়ে অনুশীলনের জন্য লেখা passage।
A. In 2019 the public library in the small town of Greenhill began lending objects as well as books. Residents can now borrow drills, sewing machines, camping tents and even musical instruments, using the same card they use for books. The idea came from a librarian, Mira Das, who noticed that many people bought expensive tools that they used only once or twice a year.
B. At first, the scheme was small. The library started with just 40 items, most of them donated by local residents, and kept them in a converted storeroom. Staff were worried that items would be damaged or not returned, so borrowers were asked to pay a small deposit, which was refunded when the item came back in good condition.
C. These fears proved largely unfounded. In the first year, fewer than two per cent of items were returned late, and only three were damaged beyond repair. The most popular item was not a tool at all but a pasta-making machine, which was booked for months in advance.
D. The scheme has since expanded to more than 600 items, and the deposit has been dropped for regular users. Das believes the benefits go beyond saving money. "People come in to borrow a ladder and end up asking a neighbour for advice on how to fix their roof," she says. "The objects bring people together."
E. Not everyone is convinced. Some local shopkeepers argue that free lending reduces their sales, and the town council has warned that the library cannot keep growing without more storage space. Das accepts that the scheme has limits, but points out that most borrowers say they would not have bought the item anyway.
